Medicare Revokes Billing Privileges of Over 1100 Medical Equipment Dealers

In a press release dated December 29, 2008, officials at Medicare officially announced that they were revoking billing privileges of over 1100 durable medical equipment suppliers. This represents the next chapter in an ongoing battle between Medicare and allegations of fraud against medical equipment dealers in Florida and California.

Durable medical equipment refers to things like wheelchairs and oxygen supplies. In total, Medicare reported that over $1 billion was spent on fraudulent claims in 2007.
