Selecting the Right Lift Chair Fabric

Not being able to stand up without assistance is a problem shared by many seniors and those who suffer from mobility related disorders, such as arthritis. This can make it extremely difficult to get out of a sitting chair and in some instances standing up often presents some very real safety risks. There are actually several ways that this issue is addressed, but lift chairs present one of the safest types of standing aids, which also help promote self reliance.

What is an Electric Lift Chair?

Lift chairs are a standing aid that have been used for almost 30 years. These devices are designed to make it easier for an individual to get into and out of their sitting chair, in a manner that is safe and can be done without assistance from a caretaker or family member. The general design of a lift chair is based upon that of a recliner and lift chairs offer a reclining backrest and extendable footrest. Like the rest of the chair, the footrest and backrest are controlled by an electric motor, so using the chair is very easy.

The electric motor that is responsible for moving the backrest and footrest is also responsible for raising the entire lift chair off of the ground. A lifting system is installed in the base of the lift chair and when it has been activated by the attached hand control, the entire lift chair raises slowly upwards. When a lift chair has been completely raised, it is possible for the person who is sitting in it to exit on their feet, with a greatly reduced chance of a fall and without the need of outside assistance.

Selecting the Right Type of Lift Chair Fabric

There are many different lift chair designs and like most types of furniture, there are a number of different levels of quality. For instance, it is possible to go with a typical recliner design, with standard fabric and padding. There are also lift chairs available that are very similar to high end recliners, using leathers and pseudo-leather fabric, as well as offering things like heat and massage. Choosing between a leather and a pseudo-leather often comes down to preference, but pseudo-leather has a number of advantages.

However, the biggest advantage of a pseudo-leather is that it offers greatly improved breathability. This can be very important, because real leather can be very sticky on bare skin and promotes sweating. Pseudo-leather, on the other hand, is designed to offer the same look and feel of real leather, but without the stickiness. Most popular lift chair manufacturers, like Golden Lift Chairs and Pride Lift Chairs, offer their own pseudo-leather, as well as offering a number of real leathers and suedes. A pseudo-leather is also very easy to clean and is also often less expensive than a full leather lift chair.

Lift chairs are very important tools that are used by many seniors across the country, as well as others who have reduced mobility. Choosing the right type of lift chair is important and it is very important to ensure that the lift chair will fit not only the aesthetic requirements of the user, but also their physical requirements.
